Install & Upgrade (Recommended) To install using Install & Upgrade, please refer to the Install & Upgrade documentation. Manual Installation Your first step is to download the add-on from your customer area. You will be asked to provide some information before downloading. Once you download, save the .zip file somewhere you are familiar with. Next, you will want to extract the files. After that is done you will need to upload the contents inside the upload folder into your root XenForo directory. After you have uploaded the files you will need to navigate to the Add-ons section within your XenForo admin panel. Here you will see it listed under "Installable add-ons". Just click Install! Congratulations! You have officially installed the Featured Threads and Content add-on on your site. ZIP Upload (XenForo 2.1. and higher) Your first step is to download the add-on from your customer area. You will be asked to provide some information before downloading. Once you download, save the .zip file somewhere you are familiar with. After you have downloaded the file, you will need to navigate to the Add-ons section within your XenForo admin panel. Click “Install/upgrade from archive” and follow the on- screen instructions. When asked for an add-on archive, select the previously downloaded file. Congratulations! You have officially installed the Featured Threads and Content add-on on your site. To navigate to General Options, go to ACP -> Setup -> Options -> [TH] Featured Threads and Content: General Options. General options Slider background image dimensions - Enter the pixels you would like all uploaded slider background images to be. All uploaded slider background images will be resized to fill the specified dimensions. If an uploaded image is smaller than the dimensions it will be upscaled to fit. Feature page options Enable featured content page - This must be selected in order for the featured content page to be active. Featured content per page - Enter the number of featured items to be displayed per page. Maximum excerpt length - Enter the maximum number of characters that should be displayed in the excerpt for the featured item. The message will be pulled from the first thread post for threads and truncated to this length when possible. The maximum length will not apply to already featured content if the maximum excerpt length is changed or for imported values unless the Trim excerpt to maximum length option is enabled. Trim excerpt to maximum length - If the excerpt exceeds the maximum allowed length and this option is enabled it will automatically be trimmed to that length. When enabled, this will adjust the maximum excerpt length for any existing featured content that exceeds the new maximum. This will break BB Code in the excerpt. New Feature Expiration Date Indefinite - When chosen, the featured content will not have an expiration date applied. For - Enter the amount of time a new featured content should retain its status as featured. After the featured status is expired, it will no longer show up as featured content anywhere but will still exist in the forum. Member options Enable member profile tab - Enables the "Featured content" tab on member profiles to display the user’s current featured content.

To navigate to Threads Options, go to ACP -> Setup -> Options -> [TH] Featured Threads and Content: Threads. Apply prefix to featured threads - If selected a prefix will automatically be applied to featured threads. If the prefix is not available in the node containing the post it will not be applied. Additionally, the prefix will not be applied if the thread already has a prefix unless the option below is enabled. Override existing prefix - If selected, the prefix above will override an existing prefix on threads when featured. Show first post at top of first page in thread - When enabled, the first post will be displayed at the top of the first page of the thread. Show first post at top of all pages in thread - When enabled, the first post will be displayed at the top of all of the pages in the thread.

To navigate to Automatic feature criteria, go to ACP -> Content -> [TH] Featured Threads and Content -> Automatic feature criteria. To add an auto feature criteria, once in the Automatic feature criteria page choose Add auto feature. Content type - Choose the content type the criteria should be applied to. Auto feature options Title - Name the auto feature criteria so you can identify it. Content type - Displays the content type chosen. Execution order - Choose the order in which auto feature criteria will be checked. Lower values will run first and once a criteria has succeeded it will be immediately applied and no others will be checked. Set feature background image from attachments when possible - When enabled, if an image attachment is found it will use that attachment as the background image for whichever thread is featured. Criteria is active - This must be selected for the criteria to be enabled. If an automatic feature criteria is disabled, any content that has already been given featured status due to the automatic feature criteria will remain featured until it expires if an expiration has been set. Other criteria You can use the Thread criteria, User criteria, User field criteria, and Remote platform criteria to set additional criteria. The Remote platform criteria comes from the platforms you have set up using XLink. If you don’t have XLink or any platforms set up, this will not be an option.

Administrator Permissions The [TH] Featured Threads and Content: Manage automatic feature criteria administrator permission can be set. Moderator Permissions The following moderator permissions can be set for user groups and nodes: Feature threads Feature polls User Permissions The following is a user permission that can be set: Can dismiss features

The [TH] Featured Threads and Content widgets can be added by navigating to ACP -> Appearance -> Widgets -> Add widget. You can choose: [TH] Featured Threads and Content: Full - Showcases the featured threads with basic information without an image. [TH] Featured Threads and Content: Grid - Showcases the featured threads with basic information and the featured image and avatar set with grid styling. [TH] Featured Threads and Content: Slider - Showcases the featured threads with basic information and the featured image and avatar set within the slider widget. You can choose the number of featured content to be displayed, the content type(s) to be displayed, and whether or not the features in the widget can be dismissed. Enable the “Bypass feature dismissal” option for the features in the widget to not be dismissable. The content chosen to be displayed will be based on the feature date.

To navigate to the style properties, go to ACP -> Appearance -> Style Properties -> Choose [TH] Featured Threads and Content. Enable first post author meta - Displays the first post author meta information but is only applicable when “Display first post as an article” is enabled. Icon size - Choose the size you would like for the icon for each featured content to be. Extra Small Small Medium Large Original Icon style - Choose the style you would like for the icon for each featured content. Default style Postbit style

The following advertising positions are added with [TH] Featured Threads and Content: Feature: Above message content Feature: Below message content

To manually feature a thread, navigate to the thread you would like to be featured. Click the button with three bubbles and an arrow pointing down and then choose “Feature thread”. From there, fill in the necessary information. Tile - Input a custom title for the featured thread. Message - Input a custom description for the featured thread. Expires - Inputting a date and time will cause this featured thread to show until the specified date and time is reached. After that date and time, the featured thread will be unfeatured automatically. Display Featured content page - When checked, the featured thread will be shown on the content page. Featured content grid widget - When checked, the featured thread will be shown on the grid widget. Featured content slider widget - When checked, the featured thread will be shown on the slider widget. Options: Users with the appropriate permissions can dismiss this feature - When enabled, users can dismiss featured threads which are shown on the grid or full widget. Notify author of this action - When enabled, a notification is sent to the user about their thread being featured with a link to the thread. Icon Use content poster’s avatar - When chosen, this will show the poster's avatar on the featured page and widgets. User custom icon - When chosen, this will show a custom icon instead of the poster’s avatar. The custom icon can be selected when the thread is manually being featured or after it has been featured. Feature background image None - Select this if you do not want there to be a featured background image. Upload custom feature background image - This will allow you to input and show your own background image for this thread on the featured thread page or slider.

Importer Tool To import data to [TH] Featured Threads and Content, navigate to ACP → Tools → Data maintenance → Import data. Choose the importer and then follow the prompted steps. Crons entries Remove expired features - To remove expired features that you’ve set, navigate to ACP → Tools → Cron Entries. Click the refresh icon to run the cron, enable/disable the cron, or click the trash can to remove it, or click on the cron to edit the run time.
